Celebrating Charles Dickens' Bicentenary

A new GCI commemorative coaster

In honour of Charles Dickens' 200th birthday on 7th February 2012, we have created a new Dickens themed coaster.

One side of the coaster features line drawings of the Oliver characters The Artful Dodger and Bill Sikes and his dog Bull's-Eye, created by Bob Moulder

The other side is a colour illustration by Mark Beech of a scene from The Old Curiosity Shop showing Nell Trent and her grandfather being evicted from their shop by Daniel Quilp.

Graphic Novel artist joins GCI

A warm welcome to Jeff Anderson

Having worked on a four year project to illustrate an award winning Graphic Novel adaptation of The Bible, it is fair to say Jeff Anderson is an accomplished illustrator of the genre.

With a portfolio that also includes multi-cultural educational illustrations of teenagers, some science fiction, and other classic historical fiction, we feel that Jeff is a great new addition to the GCI team to launch us into 2012.

Illustration Zara Slattery GCI British Council Charles Dickens Sketches by Boz bicentenary

'Sketches by Boz' by Zara Slattery

Commissioned for the British Council's Charles Dickens bicentenary project

Zara Slattery was asked by the British Council to contribute to their 2012 bicentenary celebrations of Charles Dickens by documenting modern day London in a similar manner to Dickens' Sketches by Boz.

Zara chose to produce a graphic narrative of the pre-dawn activities of Borough Market. Some of her illustrations from this project can be seen in her portfolio and the complete commission can be viewed on the British Council's website along with a link to Zara's blog describing how she approached the project.
